The state of Indiana has awarded a contract totaling nearly $400,000 to the Center for Urban Policy and the Environment to analyze the economic, fiscal, and social impacts of Indiana riverboat casinos on their local communities and the state of Indiana.

Roger P. Hamburg, retired professor at IUSB, and Associate Councilor of the Atlantic Council of the United States, attended a “black tie” dinner/reception and award ceremony for Colin Powell at the Fairmont Hotel in Washington on April 27.

Tanvi Lal, an IUB student, has been chosen as the sole recipient of the Won-Joon Yoon Memorial Scholarship for 2005. This scholarship was established in 1999 by then IU President Myles Brand to honor the memory of Won-Joon Yoon, an IU graduate student from Korea who was shot and killed in Bloomington during a two-state shooting spree by a white supremacist in July of that year.

Les Lenkowsky, IUB and IUPUI, will be speaking at a luncheon on June 1 to the Monroe County Republican Party on the topic “Whatever Happened to ‘Compassionate Conservatism’?”

Koichiro Otani, IPFW, served as moderator and presented "Exploration of the Japanese Health Care System" at the 47th annual conference of the Western Social Science Association, April 13-16, 2005, Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Jim Perry, IUPUI, and the American Democracy Project will address the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce at “Chamber Chats” on May 10. Topic: “If Democracy is good for the rest of the world, why do we ignore it at home?”
