At a public ceremony held in Sofia on November 18, 2005, the New Bulgarian University bestowed the title of Distinguished Professor on Randall Baker, IUB. The ceremony was presided over by the Rector, Dr. Sergei Ignatov, with President Bogdan Bogdanov in attendance. Dr. Baker was awarded the degree of Doctor (Honoris Causa) by NBU in 1996. His inaugural address was on the topic “Scholarship or Expertise, Wisdom or Learning: The Need for the Liberal Arts.” Later this year, his second book in Bulgarian, Strange Places, will be published. Baker has published 11 other books and holds the title of Distinguished Professor at two other universities, as well as one other honorary doctorate.

On January 2, Robert E. Bieder, IUB, was interviewed about his new book, BEAR, on the hour-long London program, "Creature Curious," broadcast by the British Arts radio station Resonance.
