Lisa Blomgren Bingham, IUB, presented "Evaluating Dispute Resolution Programs: Traps for the Unwary" in a panel entitled “The Politics of Evaluation: Lessons from the Evaluation of Workplace Dispute Resolution Programs,” at the Labor and Employment Relations Association Conference (formerly Industrial Relations Research Association/ASSA) Chicago on January 6, 2007.
Jim Perry, IUPUI and IUB, presented a research seminar about his research on public service motivation to the Faculty of Social Sciences at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, Netherlands on January 23. His presentation, “Radically Rethinking How We Motivate Public Servants,” focused on strategies and tactics for applying theory and empirical research about public service motivation.

Robert Agranoff, IUB Emeritus, conducted a seminar on "Trends and Challenges Facing Federalism" at the University Pompeu Fabru, Barcelona, Spain, for the combined faculties of Administrative Law and Political Science, January 23.
Les Lenkowsky, IUPUI and IUB, was the keynote speaker on February 7 at the Indiana AmeriCorps Director’s Association Winter Retreat held at the Four Winds Resort in Bloomington.
George Roberts, IUNW Emeritus, will be the keynote speaker on February 23rd Citizenship Day event hosting juniors and senior from area high schools, who will come to the campus to celebrate the spirit of citizenship. The event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Savannah Center Auditorium.
Michael Rushton, IUB, was an invited panelist for a public forum on "Forming an Arts Council" in Richmond, Indiana on January 30. IU Arts Administration graduate student Pamela Bliss played a key role in organizing the forum, which was moderated by Richmond Mayor Sally Hutton.

Burney Fischer, IUB, gave a presentation and lead a discussion on "Ecosystem Services and other Important Issues for Private Forest Landowners" at the Board of Directors Meeting of the Indiana Forest and Woodland Owners Association on February 10 at Columbus, IN.
Todd Royer, IUB, attended a meeting of the American Society of Limnology & Oceanography from February 4-9 in Santa Fe, NM where he presented a paper entitled "Microbial community structure in headwater streams and its influence on denitrification".

Sheila Kennedy, IUPUI, spoke on February 28th to the Great Decisions Forum at the Church of the Savior on "War Crimes and the International Criminal Court." On March 2nd, Sheila addressed the Indiana Pathways to College Network at Ivy Tech State College, on ex-offender reentry issues. The title of that presentation was "Unintended Consequences, Criminal Justice Edition: How to Shoot Yourself in the Foot and Injure Every Vital Organ."
Leslie Lenkowsky, IUB and IUPUI, was part of the Indiana Grantmakers Alliance delegation for Foundations on the Hill, an annual event, held this year on February 28, and sponsored by the Council on Foundations, to acquaint members of Congress with the work of foundations and pending legislative issues affecting them.
Michael Rushton, IUB, presented “The Creative Class and Economic Growth in Atlanta” at the conference “The City of Atlanta: Recent Trends and Future Prospects,” held at Georgia State University, February 23.
Glenda M. Schulz, IUB, presented “Using Cinema to Engage College Students in Early Career Decision-Making” at the Southeastern Association for College Employers Annual Conference held on December 6, 2006 in Atlanta, GA. Glenda is a SPEA Career Counselor and instructor for V252.

Les Lenkowsky, IUB and IUPUI, spoke on Monday night, March 19, at a dinner in New York sponsored by the Hudson Institute in honor of its retiring chairman, Walter P. Stern. In addition to his own remarks, he read a letter from Governor Daniels. Other speakers include Vice President Cheney. Lenkowsky will speak on Wednesday, March 28, at the Donors Forum of Wisconsin, in Milwaukee, on “The Rise of Big Philanthropy.” He will also be meeting with students and faculty in the nonprofit management program at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
Flynn Picardal, IUB, presented a poster, “Biogeochemical Interactions during Microbial Iron and Nitrogen Cycling in Anoxic Sediments”, at the Fulbright Academy of Science and Technology 2007 Annual Conference on March 2, 2007, in Panama City, Panama. Co-authors on the poster were former SPEA PhD student, Aaron Coby, and Eric Roden from the University of Wisconsin.
Lois R. Wise, IUB, presented "Just Below the Radar: Globalization and The Impact of Insourcing Foreign Professionals on Government and the Nonprofit Sectors," at a seminar at the School of Public Administration and Policy, Eller College of Management, University of Arizona on Monday March 19.

Burney Fischer, IUB, was invited to lead a discussion on urban forestry with the Bloomington Green Acres Neighborhood Association on the evening of March 27.
Sheila Kennedy, IUPUI, participated in a roundtable at the recent meeting of the American Society for Public Administration, held in Washington, D.C. The topic was "Is Public Administration Dead? And if so, Can or Should it be Resurrected?"
Joe Pellicciotti, IUN, presented "Congress' Ability to Expose the States to Private Party Actions for Violations of Federal Law: A Consideration of a Decade of Legal Development by the U.S. Supreme Court, 1996-2006," at the annual meeting of the Midwest Academy of Legal Studies in Business, in March 2007, held in Chicago.
Jim Perry, IUB, presented a paper at the 68th Annual American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) National Conference that was held in Washington, D.C from March 23-27. Jim’s paper, “Democracy and the New Public Service: A Model and Some Questions,” was part of a panel, The Nonprofit Sector under Marketization: Implications for Civil Society Development.

Lisa Blomgren Bingham, IUB, presented “Justice and Control over Dispute System Design,” at the University of California Hastings School of Law on March 24, 2007 in San Francisco, CA. On March 1, 2007 she presented “Legal Frameworks for Collaboration in Governance and Public Management” at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York.
Christopher Craft, IUB, attended the 10th International Symposium on Wetland Biogeochemistry, April 1-4 2007 in Annapolis MD, where he co-chaired the symposium, “Losing Ground? Impacts of Sea Level Rise on the Biogeochemistry of Tidal Marshes” with Mike Piehler of the University of North Carolina Institute of Marine Sciences. He also gave the introductory talk entitled “Effects of Accelerated Sea Level Rise on Biogeochemical Cycles of Tidal Marshes of the Southeast U.S. Coast: A Landscape Simulation.” Following the Symposium, Chris participated in the EPA workshop, “Quantifying the Role of Wetlands in Achieving Nutrient and Sediment Reductions in Chesapeake Bay,” where he presented the seminar entitled “Hydrogeomorphic Control of Nutrient and Sediment Removal by Freshwater Wetlands.” Afterwards, Chris traveled to the Nicholas School of the Environment, Duke University, where he gave an invited seminar on April 6 2007 entitled “The Challenges of Restoring Wetlands in Natural, Agricultural and Urban Landscapes.” The seminar describes research his lab conducts on wetland restoration and creation projects in coastal North Carolina, Upper Klamath Lake, Oregon and New York-New Jersey Harbor.
Beth Gazley, IUB, presented on boards and organizational governance to the management staff of Stone Belt Arc on March 24. Professor Gazley serves on the Stone Belt board of directors.
Laura Littlepage, IUPUI, presented on “How to Find What You Didn’t Know You Needed” at GIFT’S annual spring conference for community foundations, “Designing your Destiny” on April 17.
Todd Royer, IUB, on presented an invited seminar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on April 13. The title of his seminar was "Does transgenic corn pose a threat to aquatic ecosystems in the midwestern U.S.?"

Lisa Blomgren Bingham, IUB, presented "Conflict and Collaboration in Governance and Public Management" at the Northern California ADR Teachers Conference at Stanford University, Menlo Park, CA on April 21, 2007. On April 27th she presented "Legal Frameworks for Collaboration in Governance and Public Management" in a session entitled “Designing Systems to Address Conflict in Governance: How to Collaborate in Developing Policy and Managing Public Programs” at the American Bar Association Section of Dispute Resolution, Washington, DC.
Kirsten A. Grønbjerg, IUB, presented “The Indiana Nonprofit Project: The Dilemmas of Updating a Database” by Ginger Elliott-Teague and Kirsten A. Grønbjerg, at the 4th West Coast Nonprofit Data Conference, held in San Diego, CA, on April 20-21. On May 1st she presented “South Bend Nonprofits: Scope and Dimension,” at Indiana University South Bend, co-hosted by Making A Difference Michiana and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUSB.
Sheila S. Kennedy, IUPUI, presented “Wanted: Next President. (Must Have Leadership Qualities)” at the Tobias Multi-Sector Leadership Symposium, on the IUPUI campus on April 27.
Jim Perry, IUB, Fulbright-Yonsei Distinguished Lecturer this semester at Yonsei University, has been invited to give several presentations during his stay in Korea. On April 20, he conducted a research seminar at the Yonsei University Social Science Research Institute. His presentation was, “From Theory to Practice: Strategies for Applying Public Service Motivation.” He was the featured presenter for the first Fulbright Forum of the year, sponsored by the Korean-American Educational Commission (KAEC). His talk, “Democracy and the New Public Service: Reflections on the New Governance in the U.S. and Korea,” was attended by current Fulbright grantees, students, and friends of the KAEC. On May 3, he presented “Collaboration in the New Governance Era: Fad, Fantasy, or Fix?” at the School of Social Science at Ewha Womans University. In coming weeks, he will be giving presentations and seminars for the U.S. Embassy and JoongAng Ilbo’s Institute for Civil Society, the United Nations Governance Centre, and Seoul National University of Technology.
Flynn W. Picardal, IUB, presented a poster, “Biogeochemical interactions during microbial iron and nitrogen cycling in anoxic sediments”, at the conference “Small Matters: Microbes and Their Role in Conservation”, held at the American Museum of Natural History’s Center for Biodiversity and Conservation in New York City on April 26-27, 2007. Co-authors on the research presentation were former SPEA PhD student, Aaron Coby, and Eric Roden from the University of Wisconsin.
Stephen Ziegler, IPFW, was the Keynote Speaker and presented “Right to Die Societies in the United States and Switzerland: Past, Present and Future,” at the Lutheran Health Network Joint Ethics Committee Meeting, held on April 20 at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
