  •    "Tajectories" brings together scholars and teachers who have received their Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Germanic Studies at Indiana University. Convened by the Department and the Institute of German Studies, the conference has two main aims. One is to learn about the paths our graduates have taken since leaving Bloomington. Where have their interests led them? What kinds of work do they pursue now? What questions excite them for their future research and teaching? The other aim is to reflect on the direction the fields of German literature and culture as well as Germanic philology and linguistics have taken. Here we are particularly curious to learn what role the Department and the Institute might play to help shape the future development of the discipline.

The meeting will also allow for renewing old bonds and forging new ones with teachers and fellow students. To that end, we have set aside ample time for meals and refreshments. We plan to have present all the generations involved in the life of the department: the emeriti, current faculty, graduate students, prospective students, and of course the alumni.

Here you will find information about the conference schedule, the participants, and logistics. Should you have further questions, please contact Judith Warner (juewarne@indiana.edu) of Indiana University Conferences. For information pertaining to the program or questions about registration, please contact Michel Chaouli (chaouli@indiana.edu)

Trajectories is generously supported by the Max Kade Foundation, New York, and, at Indiana University, by the College of Arts and Sciences, the College Arts and Humanities Institute (CAHI), the Office of the Provost, and the Office of the Chancellor.
