Outreach
The high school component of the Indiana University DEFA Project seeks to expose a new generation of Indiana high school students to university education and the unique opportunities available to them on the Bloomington campus. Working together with Germanic Studies High School Outreach Coordinator Troy Byler, high school German teachers will prepare units on GDR history and DEFA cinema and lead school visits to the WENDE FLICKS series. During the Symposium, high school students will attend a parallel program of screenings and workshops, will work together with undergraduate mentors, and will have the opportunity to meet with two filmmakers and members of the Germanic Studies and Communication and Culture faculty.
